Είναι ένα τραγούδι για φιλανθρωπικό σκοπό από γνωστούς καλλιτέχνες των ΗΠΑ , για την Αφρική . Γράφτηκε από τον Michael Jackson και τον Lionel Richie, με παραγωγό τον Quincy Jones και τον Michael Omartian για το άλμπουμ We Are the World. Με πωλήσεις πάνω από 20 εκατομμύρια αντίτυπα, είναι ένα από τα τριάντα singles όλων των εποχών που έχουν πουλήσει 10 εκατομμύρια (ή περισσότερα) αντίτυπα σε όλο τον κόσμο.Ήταν η "απάντηση" της Αμερικής στην Αγγλία που τον προηγούμενο χρόνο (1984) η "band aid" κυκλοφόρησε το "do they know it's Christmas?"
