To "Don't Pay the Ferryman" είναι μία μεγάλη επιτυχία του Chris de Burgh από το άλμπουμ του " The Getaway" που κυκλοφόρησε το 1982

Ο εικονιζόμενος γεννήθηκε στο Venado Tuerto της Αργεντινής όπου υπηρετούσε ο πατέρας του Συνταγματάρχης Charles Davison. Μητέρα του η Mauve Emily de Burgh, Ιρλανδή κόρη του Sir Eric de Burgh, επίσης στρατιωτικού που ήταν Αρχηγός του γενικού Επιτελείου Στρατού της Ινδίας στον δεύτερο Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο.

Ο Chris πήρε το επώνυμο της μητέρας του όταν άρχισε τη μουσική του σταδιοδρομία.

Την νεαρή του ηλικία την έζησε στη Μάλτα, Νιγηρία και Ζαΐρ μια και αυτός και η μητέρα του ακολουθούσαν τον συνταγματάρχη/διπλωμάτη πατέρα στα διάφορα πόστα του.

Η οικογένεια Davison τελικά καταστάλαξε στο Barby Castle της επαρχίας Wexford στην Ιρλανδία, ένα κάστρο του 12ου αιώνα που ήταν σχεδόν ερειπωμένο όταν το αγόρασε και το ανακαίνισε ο παππούς sir de Burgh το 1960 και μετέτρεψε ένα μέρος του σε ξενοδοχείο όπου ο νεαρός Chris τραγουδούσε για τους εκεί επισκέπτες…
